2010-q1

From the President's Desk

2010 has only begun, yet our industry is already making headlines. Just a few years ago, debating the finer points of broadband was limited to technophiles and CIOs. Today, everyone from the President to the corner grocer has strong opinions on the need for, and merits of, broadband. This month, the FCC plans to roll out its Broadband Stimulus Package.  Google has announced plans to build ultra high-speed (1Gbps) broadband networks in trial locations across the United States. Carriers are concerned about increased regulation, while businesses and consumers are excited about the potential of low-cost, high-speed universal connectivity.

To that we say, welcome to our world. The team here at CICAT has been helping businesses deploy and manage high-speed, widely dispersed, affordable multi-site networks for nearly two decades. Our ability to gain cost-effective network access for sites typically considered too remote or “off-network” sets us apart from large carriers and other managed service providers. As broadband has moved from luxury to necessity, we’ve refined and expanded our services and methodologies to ensure our customers reach each and every site in the fastest, most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.

With the increased awareness of, and focus on broadband, one thing is more certain than ever... change. Technological, competitive, regulatory and economic changes are individually and collectively influencing the way your network and your business operate. In this change lies opportunity. Your CICAT team is continuously monitoring changes in broadband coverage, costs and capabilities. We update our proprietary database of more than 2,000 providers daily. We are constantly investigating new technologies and techniques that will allow our customers to operate their broadband networks even more efficiently.

Over the coming year, the future of broadband is certain to gain increased notoriety. Here at CICAT we’re ready to deliver the benefits and efficiencies of low-cost, high-speed connectivity today. As always, I look forward to speaking with you soon and welcome your comments and suggestions.

Change Happens; Make The Most of It.

Change Management transforms the inevitable into opportunity.

The economic and network landscape has changed dramatically over the last 18 months. If you haven’t reassessed your network within the last two years, now is the time. In this case, change is a win/win situation. Done right, you can increase performance while reducing cost; however, changing this vital asset must be handled strategically. From site-specific changes to organization-wide initiatives to migration to new technologies, CICAT is uniquely qualified to accelerate and simplify the process.

In fact, in a recently completed CICAT analysis and upgrade for a customer, we were able to reduce the customer’s ongoing network costs by 10%, while more than doubling their bandwidth.

With nearly 20 years of experience and a constant pursuit of advanced technologies, CICAT saves you time and money on the simplest change or the most sophisticated overhaul. CICAT provides the ongoing support needed to get the most out of today’s networks, and will work with you to develop a long-term strategy for technological superiority.

With CICAT Change Management, you receive:

  • Tactical support to help quickly adjust to unanticipated developments
  • Strategic support for moves, changes and disconnects as the network evolves
  • On-going network optimization performed during your annual review

Meet Mike Waters

CICAT’s new Senior VP of Customer Operations

Our congratulations to Mike Waters on his promotion to Senior Vice President of Customer Operations. Previously CICAT’s VP of Engineering, Mike’s promotion reflects his outstanding technical expertise and dedication to customer satisfaction. Moreover, this position exemplifies our commitment to ensuring the CICAT customer relationship is one of respect, professionalism, teamwork and value – from start-to-finish (or better yet, start-to-forever).

Mike’s new position will enable CICAT to better deliver a singular approach to the customer experience, from contact to contracts, deployments to billing to customer support. Mike will be looking at systems, processes, policies and personnel on a global basis, with one goal: to make the CICAT Customer Experience the best in the industry.

"Having great customer references is the key indicator of how a company takes care of its clients. At CICAT, we strive for all of our customers to be a reference by giving them our best each and every day,” said Mr. Waters. “We are re-doubling our efforts and focusing on new tools and technologies to improve service delivery and communication. We’re also taking a fresh look at the fundamentals, from how we answer phones to how we follow up to ensure it is exceeding expectations. ”

Mike previously served as Vice President, Engineering, a position he held since joining CICAT in December, 2003. In that role his responsibilities included pre-sales engineering, service installation, technical support and software development. Prior to joining CICAT, Mike led network sales engineering teams at Smartpipes, a leader of VPN management software, and UUNET Technologies.

News Briefs and Upcoming Events

CICAT Networks is proud to support our community through our corporate sponsorships and the volunteer efforts of our employees with organizations such as The Side-Out Foundation. Side-Out was established in 2004 by a group of individuals drawn together by their love of volleyball, but who also share a similar passion to be a part of the war against breast cancer. Side-Out’s mission is to raise money for the war against breast cancer through the recreational activity of volleyball.

As reported in the February 21, 2010 Washington Post, Side-Out is helping to fund a clinical trial that will study whether medical professionals can customize treatment for patients with metastatic breast cancer. The clinical trial is the first of its kind. Researchers have discovered that, at a molecular level, every patient's tumor is unique. The trial works to pinpoint the most effective way to treat each patient – on an individual basis. You can read the Washington Post article here.
