From the President's Desk

Are you recovery-ready? As you are well aware, we've been experiencing the most significant economic downturn in decades. And while experts disagree on where the bottom is, or was, most economic indicators are pointing from recession to recovery.

Like our parents and grandparents, the experience has changed our perspective. After years of "irrational exuberance," we emerge from this downturn better prepared to deal with setbacks, large and small. The business mantra for 2010 is "value." Whether business to business, business to consumer, or business to government, as the recovery moves forward products and services will likely be judged on substance, rather than sizzle.

As the recession deepened, many businesses pulled back, held on and rode-out the storm. Others moved cautiously forward, preparing to seize the day when the downturn turned up. No matter which category your business falls under, now is the time to make your network recovery-ready with the products and services that will deliver the most value to your organization and your customers.

Here at CICAT we spent the last few months refining our methodologies, expanding our database, and focusing on new technologies and techniques that will allow our customers to operate their broadband networks more efficiently. As I've stated before, the power of broadband is an essential catalyst for accelerating success. A faster, more reliable network empowers businesses to operate more efficiently and to deliver better service to customers for less.

We may not be out of the tunnel yet, but there is light and it's getting brighter. I encourage you to give us a call to discuss how a recovery-ready network might accelerate success. As we emerge stronger and wiser for the experience, I look forward to working with you to help move your organization to the front of the pack with prudent optimism, advanced technology, and good old fashioned value.

I look forward to speaking with you soon, and welcome your comments and suggestions.

VPNs Get Real

A Flexible Approach to Virtual Private Network Support

Private networks provide distinct business advantages: speed, security, availability and control. However, there are also the usual downsides of private ownership: responsibility and expense. Particularly during the recent economic challenges, performance vs. cost arguments took on added importance. Increased ROI pressure is further magnified by increased regulatory scrutiny, a surge in hacker attacks, a highly competitive environment and fewer internal resources. The ideal compromise may be found by combining a Virtual Private Network (VPN) with the tailored support of a flexible network specialist.

VPNs offer an appealing alternative to leased lines, Frame Relay or dial-up networks. Done right, the VPN can increase network security, availability and speed... while reducing costs. However, it's essential to team with a network partner that is flexible. Rather than the "all or nothing" VPN solutions offered by most carriers and service providers, a flexible VPN approach tailors the precise level of network support to the exact needs and capabilities of your organization. From network deployment to monitoring an existing network, to managing ongoing operations and costs, the ideal VPN partner will approach your needs with the flexibility to offer the precise level of assistance your unique business requires. Broadband Back-up Strategies

Bringing Back-up to the Top of the List

Customers have traditionally relied on CICAT for their primary network strategies.  However, more and more companies are now turning to CICAT for back-up network capabilities. CICAT is known for finding innovative ways to get high-speed connectivity to more locations, getting it deployed faster, and for securing lower monthly rates.  This network deployment methodology is also ideally suited to back-up networks.

In fact, a crucial component to establishing a fast, flexible and affordable back-up network is vendor-neutrality. Too often the primary network provider attempts to shoehorn your back-up strategy into their network. This can provide less than ideal speeds, reliability and costs. Independent thinking is the key to determining the best back-up network strategy. Evaluating the customer's network and business requirements in relation to the primary network's vulnerabilities is essential. Conversely, the days of overbuilt networks are over. A pragmatic, vendor-neutral approach will deliver a back-up strategy that mitigates risk, provides the flexibility to adapt to changes and does so in a cost-efficient manner. Read more...
